Watch This Artist: Sabrine Boulati

Today we have the pleasure to introduce you to Sabrine Boulati, a 25-year-old graphic designer based in Tunisia. For Sabrine, graphic design is a way to translate simple ideas into artworks by combining colours, typography and shapes to convey a certain message.
Mathqaf: Nice to meet you! Who are you?
Sabrine: I am Sabrine, a graphic designer who looks to take graphic design to another level (wish me luck).
Mathqaf: Where and what did you study?
Sabrine: I studied at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts of Tunis.
Mathqaf: Tell us about your practice.
Sabrine: I extend my competence towards a professional practice that encompasses several technical but also personal aspects that are anchored in a single objective which is none other than to enrich me.
Mathqaf: What do you listen to when you work?
Sabrine: Music for me is one of the strongest therapies. My musical taste varies and depends on my mood. I can listen to American rap or blues, for instance. Each style has its own effect on me, my work and my humour.
Mathqaf: What themes do you pursue?
Sabrine: In my personal work I pursue themes such as minimalistic work, digital collage and psychedelic.
Mathqaf: What work do you most enjoy doing?
Sabrine: Digital collage is the graphic style that I like the most.
Mathqaf: How has your practice changed over time?
Sabrine: Professionally my practice changed from complicated to minimalistic and simple contrary to my personal practice.
Mathqaf: Describe a real-life situation that inspired you.
Sabrine: For me the simple fact of a passing train is inspiring. It’s not about a situation it’s more about the way that we see things.
Mathqaf: What is your dream project?
Sabrine: It’s not really a project, it’s a concept ! As I already said, I want to take graphic design to another level.
Mathqaf: Why do you do what you do?
Sabrine: A singer named Imany said in a song once: “God is love and love is all around”. Art makes people happy, it comforts and relieves them. Giving these serene sensations to people is what I call love and that’s all that matters.
